The Power of Books

Books outlast empires.
Christianity is the culture of the word.

Jordan B. Peterson

The written word embodies the wisdom or foolishness of the age it was written in. There are fragile books, which are bound to the time of their writing, and timeless books which endure and touch on timeless principles and the basics of reality, or fool people into compelling yet destructive realities.

The Bible, a collection of 66 books and written and assembled over thousands of years has been the basis for modern civilization and the ideas of freedom which are proliferating around the world. Now the people of many nations long to be equal before just laws, and free to live as they choose.

The Koran is the basis of the way of life for millions of people in the Middle East, Asia, and around the world.

The Communist Manifesto has been the basis for radical political reforms in the 20th century which have led to the deaths of 100,000,000 babies, women, and men.

The work of Stephen R. Covey has improved the interpersonal, organizational, and education outcomes of many people.

And we still learn about Greek philosophers to this day whose writings and ideas have lasted thousands of years.

Books and the words which compose them change the hearts and minds of men, women, and children, and influence the birth, direction, and outcomes of nations.

I am writing about books because it helps me to learn effectively, and I hope it helps you answer questions you have or propels you toward the life you desire. At the very least, perhaps my writing will cause you to think and that would be good.

Cheers,
Levi M. Johnson
